— OVERVIEW —
Before we started, the backyard of this project located in Sewickley, PA, didn't serve any functional purpose. Brick clad retaining walls established short terraced lawn areas that were difficult to maintain and had limited functionality. Blackwood & Associates removed the terraced wall features and called for the excavation of thousands of yards of soil. The usable space that previously extended less than 20 feet from the rear of the house was expanded to nearly 100 feet.
This provided the necessary space for an in-ground pool, automatic gas fire pit, outdoor shower, koi fish pond, recreational lawn area and a pool house (complete with changing room and half bath). Custom natural stone masonry work is an element that is prevalent throughout the project. It can be seen on the walls of the pool house, the sides of the raised spa, and on the renovated front entryway of the home.
The exterior entry was redesigned by Blackwood & Associates’ staff. The original entry was removed and a new elevated covered patio was installed. The new patio was expanded to better compliment the scale of the home and incorporate grander architectural details.
